Hello blog world! Today was awesome ! Actually, this whole week wasn't so bad. There have a been a few minor bumps that I could have lived without, but I'm still alive and the hard stuff is done. I got the paper off to print today after some crazy last-minute-craziness. The shortened weeks are always a little insane because my paper's deadline for stuff is usually Tuesday. With Monday off and my new girl not around all last week, I was flustered to say the least. Still got it all together, the pages made, sent off, proofed and sent off to Estevan to print! Yay!
After work, I ran into a friend in town (the vet) and we decided to go do some adventuring. We found a hug field fire that we couldn't get anywhere near because of it being on private property. Note to self: ALWAYS have your long lens (readers will understand better when they see pictures). I took a couple frames and we continued on some dirt roads, a cow pasture road which lead to a random oil pump jack and then back out onto a different dirt road. As dusk set its lovely colouring onto everything, I immediately noticed a large shape in a tree. I stopped the car and stared right into the eyes of a very handsome great horned owl. I decided I would try my luck with my portrait lens *sigh* My fellow photoj's can relate to this horrible moment when I realized my telephoto lens, tripod and flash unit were all at the office still. I didn't think I would be venturing out of town and certainly not into my favourite animal. Needless to say, I will be better prepared and plan to go back this weekend with all the appropriate gear. Owls stay around the same areas and this was the second one I had spotted in this area, so I'm really hoping that I will be able to get some better shots. For now, I'm uploading the crap first attempts I got, plus some of the other cool shots from the evening.
Hope everyone had a good long weekend and an even better shortened week!

More of my life in Sask.

Hello all!  I am not uploading as often as I would like, but here is another update for the blog world. I hope everyone is enjoying their summer (or whatever time of the year they are in as they read this). I have (since the last post) been to another rodeo, this one being a little more professional and I landed much better seats. I've also met a lot of cool people, spotted many cool animals and discovered new areas in both Saskatchewan and Manitoba. I want to head over to Alberta and perhaps through to B.C. eventually, but my next trip is actually set for September. I'll be heading home to take some photos for a friend's wedding in Tiny, ON. and will snag the weekend's opportunity to hug my parents as much as possible. I am planning on bringing my favourite little dog, Taco, home with me to Redvers and hope he is comfortable here . I've been feeling the 'need my best friend' blues, so he'll be finally resettling up here with me.
I guess I shall get to the picture part, as this is what this blog is mostly about (for me, anyways). I can't imagine who else reads this, but thank you to anyone who does follow. For me, it's a good way to revisit my memories made.

Redvers, SK. Yes sir! We had a tornado in town.

Kenosee Lake, SK. This is a baby raccoon in a poorly lit bathroom. I apologize for it not being entirely sharp,
but I'm sure the cuteness makes up for it. This little guy is one of a batch of abandoned babies, living
at a rehabilitation centre in a bathroom, safe from harm.

Fairlight (area), SK - On the way to Moosomin, there is one area with a valley and some hills. They said it was all flat, so I found some hills!

Manor, SK. We get some pretty wicked weather out here from time to time, and I've yet to catch a really
decent one with my gear, but I did manage to snag this lightning shot before having to run inside from the rain.

Manor, SK. This is PBR Fun Daze Jake Wilson, having an unfortunate accident with his riding, resulting in him being taken to hospital. I've only heard rumours, but all have said he's recovering.

Kenosee Lake, SK. This is a beautiful Great Horned Owl that is staying at a rehabilitation centre due to some injuries.
Due to anxiety about being near humans, he was not very interested in his meal.

Redvers, SK. I have been meaning to get a shot of this privately owned airplane that often flies over Redvers.
My dad will like this.

Manor, SK. Another PBR Fun Daze shot I liked.

Redvers, SK. I went to cover a golf tournament recently and was invited along to try my luck at it. I'm not very good, but it was a lot of fun and I got some great shots with such beautiful weather!
